The kids have been outside playing and come back quite covered in red, raised spots. UGH! There are pockets of sitting water all around now after the rain – which means bugs. And I didn’t think to go empty thing out this morning. Now I have some itchy kiddos . . .
The first thing I thought of was lavender when they informed me of the itching. Then I decided we should do one better and whip up “Itch” in a roller bottle so we have it on hand. This is when I go to my magic closet to see what else can alleviate all the scratching.
Lavender is soothing.
Melaleuca helps with the poison.
Peppermint gives a cooling effect.
Coconut Oil is anti-bacterial and Calendula infused is even better!
Add the following to a 10ml Roller Bottle:
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Top off with a Carrier Oil
My go to carrier oil is Sweet Almond, but for this I used coconut because of it’s properties. For this I do like to use a high grade oil since it is topical. Anything topical I use the more expensive stuff because I have noticed a difference in skin reaction.
For the Babies
For under 2-year-old leave out the peppermint and cut the Melaleuca in half, so you have less EO to carrier oil. Their little bodies aren’t ready for the strength of the other oils.
I hope you don’t have to use it too much, but you’ll be glad to have it in your bag when you need it! We also have some great homemade Bug Spray, but inevitably we will forget or fail to reapply when it is a sweaty or wet day. And of course my poor kiddos are the first to get them! Long gone are the days of using “after-bite” and there’s no calamine in our house either.
If you need something a little more “sticky”, try Intoxicated on Life’s Itch-Be-Gone Paste.
